5 Things You Ought to Know About Making A Difference
Show Notes

In this episode, Brian Schuette, CSAFirm Managing Partner, and Ashlea Shepherd Porter, CSAFirm Partner, discuss 5 Things You Oughta Know About Making a Difference.

  1. Ask not what someone can do for you, but ask what you can do for someone else.

Be other-oriented.

Making a difference and helping others has to be a goal in your life.  This is a way to express gratitude for the blessings that we have.

“We have been taught to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, but we need to recognize and be thankful that we have a family that can provide us with boots.”

  1. We have to be helpers and seek out opportunities to assist someone else.

We can’s wait until we are asked.  Sometimes we have to identify the need and seek out ways to help meet that need.

  1. We have to recognize that sometimes people need help getting to the starting line.

It isn’t always about helping them cross the finish line, sometimes they need help just getting to our baseline.

Some people are not blessed in the ways that we are and we need to help them have the opportunities to be the best person they can be.  There are many circumstances that can lead to the fact that not everyone starts at the same place.  Regardless of what those circumstances are, we need to be willing to help them in whatever way we can.

  1. Retail vs. wholesale good- helping one person at a time vs. many at the same time.

Often it is better to find one cause, situation or circumstance and help all you can in that with the resources you have rather than doing a little bit for a bunch of different causes or areas.  This can make a real difference.

  1. You should never help someone and expect something in return.

This should never be your motivation. You cannot have the mindset that they “owe” you something. Even if people don’t appreciate it or agree with you all the time, help anyway.  You cannot please everyone all the time, but you can do what you feel lead to do.
